On 8th May Skipton will commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a series of moving events, paying tribute to those who served and sacrificed during World War II.
Skipton Town Council will begin the day at 8:00 AM with a solemn VE Day 80 Proclamation, delivered by Skipton’s Town Crier, outside Skipton Town Hall.
This ceremonial announcement will mark the beginning of a day dedicated to remembering those who played a role in achieving victory in Europe.
At 6:30pm, Skipton’s historic bells will ring out in celebration of peace followed by a service of remembrance at 9pm in the ground of the Holy Trinity Church.
The evening will conclude with the lighting of the Beacon of Peace at 9:30 PM.
A spokesperson for Skipton Town Council commented of the ending ceremony saying:
"This beacon will symbolize hope, unity, and a commitment to peace for future generations.
"It will serve as a lasting reminder of the importance of peace and the power of unity in shaping a better world."
