Keighley to host official Yorkshire Day celebrations

A series of events will take place in Keighley this year to mark Yorkshire Day as the town council teams up with The Yorkshire Society.

Keighley has been chosen as the host of the Official Yorkshire Day celebrations for 2022.

This is the first time the event has been held since 2019 and to celebrate the occasion there will be lots of activities for all the family across Keighley - including a parade on Yorkshire Day itself through the town (details below)

Keighley Town Council has thanked all the groups, businesses and organisations who have come together to help put on a fantastic event line up. 

On Saturday 30th July, The Yorkshire Dialect Society will be running a special ‘Celebrating the Yorkshire Dialect’ Event in Keighley Library. The event will run from 10.30am to 4:30pm and will see keynote speakers, readings and recitations of dialect poems and prose. An exhibition on Ian Dewhirst will also be open during the day. Tickets are £5 and are available via The Yorkshire Society’s website. 

Then across the rest of the weekend and on Yorkshire Day itself the following events are planned in Keighley:

Sunday 31 July 2022, 10am – 4pm

- Artisan Market on Church Green Car Park, showcasing local businesses. Run by RSH Markets 

- Community Showcase, Town Hall Square. Stalls from local groups, charities and organisations sharing their work. Including live entertainment and performances. 

- Play in Parks, Church Green, inflatables and activities for Children. Run by Bradford Community Play and Development Service.

- Airedale Centre – Entertainment 

Monday 1 August 2022, 10am – 4pm 

- Artisan Market on Church Green, showcasing local businesses. Run by RSH Markets 

- Community Showcase, Town Hall Square. Stalls from local groups, charities and organisations sharing their work. Including live entertainment and performances.

- Keighley Creative Yorkshire Rose Workshop, Church Green. Make your own Yorkshire Rose to celebrate Yorkshire Day! 

- The Livery Rooms, Children's activities, face painting, stalls and a BBQ. 

- Airedale Centre – Entertainment 

As part of the Yorkshire Day celebrations on Monday 1st August, there will also be a parade made up of Mayors from across Yorkshire, VIPs and members of the Yorkshire Society. Led by the Yorkshire Regiment Corps of Drums, the parade will leave Sainsburys car park at 10.30am and head up Cavendish Street then turn left onto North Street before finishing at Keighley Shared Church.

All are welcome to line the streets and wave Yorkshire flags!
