A new peer-led support group for adults living with grief is launching in Skipton this Saturday (12th September), offering a welcoming space for people to come together and share their experiences.
Navigating Grief Together has been created in memory of Brian Lambert and is designed to provide informal, peer-led support for adults aged 18 and over.
The Skipton branch will meet every Saturday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm at Greatwood and Horseclose Community Centre on North Parade.
The group is not a clinical or formal setting, with its organisers describing it as a place where people can meet others who understand what it is like to live with grief.
The sessions are drop-in, with no booking required.
People are invited to have a cup of tea or coffee, stay for as long as they wish and talk, listen or simply spend time with others.
The launch of the Skipton group comes as Navigating Grief Together looked to expand its services to Skipton.
The organisation is currently seeking volunteer group facilitators to help bring its peer-support model to new areas.
Volunteers are asked to commit around three hours a week and have a personal understanding of bereavement.
The role is focused on listening and peer support rather than counselling, with training and ongoing support provided.
Facilitators will become part of the group themselves and do not need to have all the answers.
The organisation says it is looking for people who are warm, welcoming, understanding and willing to listen to others.
There is no financial outlay required from volunteers, with posters, leaflets and promotional materials provided.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer facilitator, or who would like more information about the Skipton group, can contact Ann on 07783 672873 or email navigatinggrieftogether@gmail.com.
