Former England women’s international footballer Jean Elliott will turn on Skipton’s Christmas Lights this year on Sunday 30th November.
Jean was a member of what has come to be known as the “Lost Lionesses,” part of the early England women’s football team which played at a time when the women’s game faced considerable challenges.
The team was recently honoured for their pioneering role in the history of women’s football.
While detailed personal statistics for Jean Elliott are scarce in public records, her inclusion among the 1971 England squad and her recognition in initiatives celebrating the early role models of women’s football demonstrate her contribution to the sport’s heritage.
A range of family-friendly attractions is planned throughout the day, with Your Skipton Radio hosting the main stage at the top of the High Street.
Visitors can expect live music from local performers, street entertainment, festive stalls and food vendors offering seasonal treats.
There will also be children’s activities such as face painting, craft stations and small fairground rides aimed at younger visitors.
As the switch-on approaches with Jean at 5pm, the Your Skipton will host a headline performance from Britain's Got Talent finalist Stacey Leadbeatter.
The day kicks off with what organisers hope will be a record-breaking Skipton Santa Fun Run at 11am - you can sign up to take part at skiptonsantafunrun.com.
