Skipton and Ripon MP Sir Julian Smith is encouraging local people to take part in a government consultation on plans to ban the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks to under-16s.
The government says the proposed legislation is intended to protect young people from the potential effects of high caffeine intake, which have been linked to issues such as poor sleep, reduced concentration and emotional health concerns.
While some retailers already restrict sales voluntarily, the new law would make the ban mandatory across England.
Sir Julian Smith said:
“This is an important opportunity for parents, teachers, health professionals and local businesses to help shape a policy that could significantly improve children’s wellbeing and educational outcomes.
"I encourage everyone to read the proposals and submit their views before the deadline.”
The consultation is open until 26 November 2025 and can be accessed through the government website at gov.uk.
