Skipton MP impressed by local school's enthusiasm

Skipton and Ripon MP Sir Julian Smith has visited Glusburn Community Primary School, where he met pupils and staff and toured the school.

The visit followed a trip to Parliament by a group of pupils earlier this year, during which Sir Julian said he was impressed by their enthusiasm, knowledge and the questions they asked.

During his visit to the school, Sir Julian met Headteacher Katie Smith, Deputy Head Neil Bithell and Co-Opted Governor Tobias Neale.

He also met Cooper, the school's dog, and spoke with pupils about their education and future ambitions.

Speaking after the visit, Sir Julian said:

"It was a pleasure to visit Glusburn Community Primary School and see first-hand the excellent work taking place.

"The pupils were a credit to the school, confident, polite and engaged, and it was great to hear about the many opportunities available to them.

"I was particularly impressed by the school's commitment to inclusion, and the work being done to support pupils with special educational needs.

"My thanks go to Mrs Smith, all the staff, and the pupils who made me feel so welcome."

Glusburn Community Primary School has 381 pupils and was rated 'Good' by Ofsted.

The school says it is committed to supporting the wellbeing, inclusion and development of all its pupils.
