£750,000 government funding for projects to improve Keighley

Keighley and Ilkley constituency is set to benefit from an additional £750,000 of funding for improvement projects thanks to a government investment.

Keighley is one of 101 towns across the UK to receive up to £25 million from the government’s ‘Towns Fund’ investment programme, and in June the government offered eligible councils up to £750,000 for projects that can be completed this financial year.

Due to the time pressures placed on local councils at the present time, the Ministry for Housing Communities and Local Government allowed local councils to take responsibility for which projects were submitted for approval.

Projects to benefit in Keighley include: additional CCTV to improve safety in the town centre; additional recreational activity across our parks including at Cliffe Castle and Devonshire Parks, and Victoria Park and Lund Park; upgrades to Keighley Worth Valley Railway; money for capital equipment to support engineering and manufacturing apprenticeships, and bus shelters that provide residents with real time updates on travel status.

Local MP Robbie Moore has welcomed the investment. He said: “I was elected on the promise of increasing funding to areas like ours to address the disparity that which other areas have benefited from for too long. We need to start getting positive projects underway in Keighley and this immediate investment of £750,000 secured from our Conservative government which is in addition to the Towns Fund Scheme monies will help. The money will support a range of local projects, such as at Keighley College, Project 6 and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway amongst much more. I am pleased to have drawn this money down from government, as I do believe it will contribute towards making a positive difference to the lives of people here in Keighley.”
