Keighley Leisure Centre to receive £360k to improve energy efficiency

Keighley Leisure Centre is getting £359,580 from the government's Swimming Pool Support Fund - for energy efficiency measures that will reduce the facility's running costs.

Figures revealed earlier this month show town's Leisure Centre, run by Bradford Council, operated at a loss of £838,000 in the financial year to April 2023.

The investment announced by central government this week will fund energy efficiency measures for Photo Voltaic (PV) panels and Micro-filtration systems.

Welcoming the news, Keighley MP Robbie Moore said: "Sport and physical activity are incredibly important for our physical and mental health and our Keighley Leisure Centre is a real hub for the community.

"It’s therefore fantastic to see the government investing in our local facilities to ensure that everyone, no matter their age, background or ability can continue to enjoy the Keighley Leisure Centre long into the future."

Sports Minister, Stuart Andrew, said: “Millions of people swim every year in England, but increased energy costs mean some pools are struggling financially.

"This further £60 million of support from the Government and Sport England will ensure hundreds of swimming pools can lower their operating costs in the long run, and continue to provide an important service for communities across the country.”
